The Lyrical Shirt is all about flow, form, and a little quiet drama — led by its standout feature: the soft tie neckline. Wear it loose, knotted, or draped for an effortlessly feminine finish. Prefer structure? Switch the tie for a classic collar and stand.

And let's not forget the beautiful puff sleeve with a softly gathered frill that adds a light, romantic touch. Designed for soft, drapey woven fabric, the Lyrical Shirt is feminine without the fuss.

The Lyrical Shirt is all about flow, form, and a little quiet drama.

With softly gathered textures, a bloused sleeve designed to be worn pushed up, and a gently flared frill cuff, this shirt balances ease and intention. It’s feminine without the fuss, relaxed without being oversized, and thoughtfully detailed without over-complicating your look.

Choose the soft tie neckline for a relaxed statement — left loose or gently draped at the front for an effortless finish. Or opt for the collar and collar stand for a more structured neckline that still works beautifully with the shirt’s soft volume.

Best suited to soft, drapey woven fabrics that allow the sleeve and gathers to fall just right.

  • Full puff sleeves gathered at the shoulder.
  • Elasticated frill cuffs.
  • Short, mid & long sleeve.
  • Soft tie neck detail - designed to be tied loosely at bust level or be worn open.
  • Optional collar with stand.
  • Back is softly gathered into the yoke.
  • Buttoned or snap front.
  • Gently shaped side seams.
  • 2 lengths.
  • Hemline has a very gentle curve.
  • Regular fit is dartless. Darted option provided for larger bust.
  • FBA (full bust adjustment) option included.
  • Sizes 4-30.
  • Print at home, copy shop & projector.
  • Size 4-30 (includes all sizes).

SUITABLE FABRIC: Woven fabrics with soft drape.

Read more about the team's fabric choices here, on the blog.

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS: View the fabric chart.

FABRIC CHOICE: This pattern is designed for woven fabrics with a soft, fluid drape. These will allow the gathers and sleeves to fall gently for an effortlessly floaty look.

Great examples include: Rayon, viscose, georgette, chiffon, crepe de chine, tencel, modal, lightweight viscose or rayon twill, rayon or viscose dobby, lightweight lace.

Go rogue, but go in knowing what to expect!

Fabrics with more body aren’t the recommended choice, but we know sewists like to go rogue — and sometimes that leads to gorgeous results! Just keep in mind that these fabrics will hold the shape of the sleeve more, creating extra volume and structure at the gathers. You may find the sleeve doesn’t blouse as softly over the elastic and the overall look can feel a little broader at the shoulders.

Examples include: Cotton, cotton blends, linen, linen blends, lawn, seersucker, sateen.

TRIMS:

  • 10mm (3/8") elastic. Length - 2 x around your arm.
  • Light, soft interfacing (fusing) - to match your chosen fabric. I personally use a soft knitted interfacing. Interfacing is used in the tie neckline (neckline section only), collar & collar stand & the front plackets.
  • 6-8 x 15mm (5/8”) buttons or snaps - buttons spaced 8cm (3 1/8”) apart. The first button is positioned 11-13cm (4.5-5”) down from the neckline. If you wish to add another button or two high, add 1-2 more buttons. This also applies to the collar stand. Add extra buttons.

Love mixing and matching your PE patterns? The Lyrical Shirt offers some fun and easy mashing options.

  • For a direct sleeve swap, you can add the bubble sleeve from the Sweet Talker Top straight onto the Lyrical Shirt - no changes needed. Likewise, the Lyrical puff sleeve fits perfectly on the plain bodice of the Sweet Talker.
  • To add other sleeve styles to the Lyrical, like a plain shirt sleeve, you’ll just need to adjust the front and back armholes.
  • Our handy Mashable Sleeves Chart shows you which sleeve styles are compatible across PE patterns, with our without small tweaks, including the About Town Popover, Take The Chance Dress, Be Mine Top, All In Shirt, Meet You There Dress, and Smitten Jacket.
  • You can also take the Lyrical puff sleeve and add it to other patterns listed. Just transfer the Lyrical’s front and back armholes (or back and yoke) to the new pattern for the perfect fit.
  • Want to use the Lyrical tie neckline on another pattern? Try it with the Take The Chance Dress or All In Shirt — simply copy across the front and back neckline shapes.
