A digital PDF pattern is like a virtual sewing kit! It's a set of instructions and templates for making a sewing project, all packed into a handy digital file (PDF).
It's a simple as download > print > cut > sew.
Here's how it works:
Easy to Access: Instead of buying a paper pattern from a store, you get a digital PDF pattern online. Once you've bought it, you download it straight to your computer or device. No waiting for shipping!
Printability: After downloading, you print out the pattern on your home printer or at a copy shop. Don't worry about sizing—our tutorials make sure your pattern prints out just right. We even have options for using a projector if you prefer.
Assembly: When your pattern is printed, simply trim and tape the pages together, matching the provided lines and symbols. Voila! You've got your full pattern pieces.
Reuse: The best part? You can save your digital PDF pattern on your computer and print it again anytime you want to make the project. No need to buy the pattern over and over!
Environmentally Friendly: Here's the cherry on top: You can read the instructions right on your device, so there's no need to print them out. It's eco-friendly crafting!
Digital PDF patterns make sewing projects easy, accessible, and eco-conscious. They're a hit with sewists everywhere!
Yes, all our patterns come with seam allowances included.
Seam allowances will vary depending on whether you're sewing with stretch or woven fabric.
You'll typically find the seam allowances marked on most pattern pieces, detailed in the tutorial's glossary page, and occasionally specified within the instructions if certain processes require different allowances from the rest of the pattern.
This will depend on the pattern you purchase.
You will find each patterns size range clearly listed under both the ‘Sizing’ & ‘Pattern Specs’ tabs on each product page, here on the website.
Patterns released since June 2020 all include sizes 4-30.
As we're based in Australia, our sizing might differ from what you're accustomed to. Don't worry, though! Each pattern includes a size chart and specific sizing instructions tailored to ensure the perfect fit for your fabulous curves.
Regardless of the size range, when you purchase a Pattern Emporium pattern, you receive access to all sizes listed for that particular design. We don't split patterns into smaller size ranges.
You will find a Size & Fit guide in your pattern. This helps you work out the best size to make for your personal measurements. You will also find body measurements in each pattern listing.
Do you need help choosing suitable fabrics for a particular sewing pattern to achieve the desired look and fit?
Each of our patterns has its own specific outline of what fabrics will work for that sewing pattern.
Simply read the descriptions that accompany each pattern on our website and find the right fabric for your pattern.
Most of our patterns offer you multiple fabric options, allowing you to adapt your creations according to personal preferences and seasonal choices.
Check out our summer sewing patterns, winter sewing patterns, & trans-seasonal sewing patterns here.
To make it easier for you to choose, many of our patterns also have a video where Kate sews up a whole bunch of samples of that pattern in different fabrics.
You can find these videos on each pattern listing & on the Pattern Emporium YouTube channel.
The Pattern Library is your go-to hub for accessing all the files included with your purchase.
Here, you'll find each pattern listed alphabetically.
Simply select the design you want, and you'll see all the available files listed, including the tutorial, print-at-home, copy shop, and, in most cases, the projector file.
Choose the file(s) you need, and they'll download directly to your computer's download folder.
As it’s now downloaded to your computer, you won't need to redownload each time you want to access the tutorial or reprint the pattern. But it’s here, in your library, whenever you need to.
We recommend reading the tutorial on your device or computer to make the most of the links provided.

Absolutely! If you're feeling a bit blah about sewing lately, here are some things you might try:
Check Out Kate's 'What's In the Pattern' Videos: You've got to see these! Kate (that's me!) sews up a bunch of samples for each pattern in these videos. I use different fabrics and styles to show you all the different styles you can make in a particular pattern. It's not just about showing off the patterns—it's about getting you excited and inspired to dive back into your sewing projects.
Take a Stroll Through the Shops: This works wonders for me! Whenever I'm feeling a bit meh about sewing, I'll pop into a fabric or fashion store. Before I know it, I'm buzzing with ideas, thinking, "Hey, I could totally make that!" It's like a spark for your sewing mojo.
Join Our Facebook Community: Seriously, it's the best. Our Facebook group is filled with amazing fellow sewists at all different skill levels, sharing their sewing adventures every day. Seeing what everyone else is up to is so inspiring and motivating. Plus, you'll feel right at home chatting with fellow sewing enthusiasts!
Hope these ideas help get your sewjo back in action!
Yes, you sure can. In fact, most of our patterns offer three convenient formats to choose from:
Be sure to check the 'Pattern Specs' tab before purchasing to ensure that the design you're interested in offers the formats you need. Please note that a few older patterns may not have layers or projector files available.
To access the pattern & tutorial files you've purchased:
1.Sign in to your account here on the website.
2. At the top of 'My Account' page, select the big pink button to access your pattern library.
3. Select or search for the pattern you wish to download.
4. Next, select the file(s) you wish to download. These will download directly to your computer.
WHICH FILES SHOULD I DOWNLOAD?
To sew each pattern you'll need to download the tutorial file and one of the pattern files. Which pattern file you choose depends on your preference. You have 3 options: print at home, copy shop & projector.
Print at home pattern: As crazy as it sounds, you can print this pattern on your home printer on ordinary printer paper.
You will open & print this file using Adobe Reader. Follow the page printing guide in your tutorial (so you don't have to print all the pages) and use the printer setup (specs) page to get the settings right. You'll also find the printer setup graphic here. With the layers option in Adobe Reader, you can print this file in a single size, a few sizes or, if you prefer, all of them. (Note, size layers are not available in some older patterns).
A0 copy shop pattern: This pattern option is for printing on a large format printer at a copy shop store.
We recommend asking for plan printing in b/w as it's a little cheaper. The printer will need to open & print this file in Adobe Reader using the specs provided in the tutorial. Again, you can isolate size layers on most patterns.
Projector pattern: This is a relatively new option that's taken the sewing world by storm. Those that use this tech find it faster & more convenient. I'd recommend joining one of the sewing with projector groups on Facebook to find out more about this option.
I'VE DOWNLOADED MY FILES, WHAT NEXT?
Once you've downloaded your pattern, it's time to grab a cuppa & sit down and peruse the tutorial.
You'll find it packed full of information from sizing, customising & adjustments, selecting fabric, printing, cutting, inspiration and, of course, sewing your new pattern.
