Time Out | Wide Binding Tank PDF Sewing Pattern

I love the fit of this tank! Its quick to make but the cut and the wide binding elevates this into something special. Fabulous pattern!

I was looking for a sewing pattern to recreate Sharon Stone's infamous white dress in Basic Instinct or Carolina Herrera's sleeveless knit turtleneck top for an autumn/winter work capsule. I thought the Time Out Tank was a great base pattern to work with. My muslin poly crepe knit fabric with 2% spandex was only a 2-way stretch (not per the pattern instructions) but I went for it anyway. I drafted a turtleneck to replace the neck band. Overall, it wasn't too bad. The armbands did gape a little bit but that was to be expected because I didn't use the recommended fabric. I will try again with the appropriate fabric with more spandex in the blend to move closer to my vision. I made a size 18 (bust/waist/hip), used a walking foot, added the tall length for the bottom hem so that I could tuck the top into my bottoms. No other adjustments were made. I will definitely make more of the dressier versions of this tank because it uses so little fabric if you are careful with pattern placement. Love it!

I like the tank top neckline and armhole shapes. The high cut neckline looks classy and is easy to layer under second layers. The slightly cut-in armhole is youthful and wears well with sports bra type bras.
I purchased the pattern particularly for the wide bindings and was not disappointed. They are easy to sew and look very RTW even when finished with just a regular sewing machine.
I did alter the application technique a little, serging the bands in place first and then stitching the second, wider seam allovance stitch. This made it easy to get an even and precise edge to wrap the binding around.

This was the first pattern emporium pattern I’ve used. I found the video directions very helpful. I love the fit, and I see many more in my future projects.

Unfortunately I have not had time to make this as yet.
