Guide To Sewing A Faux Jumpsuit (or Romper!)

We love the drama of a jumpsuit. That instant outfit. The head-to-toe moment. The swish of wide legs or the ease of a summer short. But let’s be honest—real jumpsuits can be a pain in the you-know-what... especially when nature calls.

That’s why we’re all about faking it. Sewing two separate pieces—a top and pants or top and shorts—in the same fabric creates the illusion of a jumpsuit or romper, without the bathroom gymnastics. And the best part? You can wear them together or mix them into your regular wardrobe. It’s the look of a jumpsuit with all the flexibility of separates.

Here’s how we’ve been ‘faking it’ lately with both stretch and woven patterns that pair up perfectly - summer & winter.

Part 1: Woven Jumpsuit & Romper Combos

Kate & Meredith – Low Key Cami + Vacation Vibe Palazzo Pants

Light, relaxed and ready for summer. This set gives effortless jumpsuit energy with floaty palazzo legs and a cami that tucks in just enough to fool everyone. I added belt keepers and a sash to pull it all together (and give it that "bought-it-like-this" vibe).

We all made the same set. Kate & Melanie's are poolside perfection in swim fabric from Boo! Designs. Sophie's is in viscose jersey with the low back with power mesh shelf bra. Kim's is rayon spandex, also with a power mesh shelf bra & high back. 

Kate – Chasing Butterflies Sweater + Walk Boldly Pants
