THIS IS A DIGITAL PDF SEWING PATTERN
The Sashay Shorts are a flared shorts pattern designed for sewing with stretch knit fabrics. They combine the femininity of a skirt with the practicality of shorts, offering the best of both worlds. If you're into beachwear, the slimline shorts are an excellent alternative to traditional board shorts when sewn in swimwear fabric.
Bonus, you can download and start sewing these today—they're that quick and easy!
With just three simple pattern pieces, sewing up a basic pair of Sashay Shorts is a breeze. What sets this pattern apart is the creative possibilities it offers. You have the freedom to choose the level of flare that suits your style, add pockets for convenience, and customise the length to your liking.
If you love these but want pants, take a look at our Palazzo Pants sewing pattern here.

Side seam free* - just 3 pieces to sew together, unless you want to add pockets. *Note: For sizes 22-30, an additional 2pc pattern option has been added for these sizes in the medium & full flare as the 1pc in these sizes may not fit into some fabrics widths.
The Sashay shorts provide more flair than your usual pattern. I love the dressy look of the subtle flair with foxy pockets. The directions made me feel like an experienced seamstress. I decided to skip the muslin and make a pair using the fit for the Palazzo pants and they were perfect.
So far, I've made the short version in size 12 with subtle flair, both with and without pockets and I get what you mean about pockets not being necessary. It's a much quicker make without them. I also used the yoga band ... and I love the outcome!
These shorts are so easy to make and very comfortable to wear. They are flattering and comfortable and a joy to wear. Thank you for such a lovely pattern.
I love this pattern! It's fun and it's easy to put together (why can't the big 4 patterns be this good). It's also economical to buy various fabrics and whip up endless options to dress up or down. I plan on sewing my way through all of Pattern Emporium patterns.
Great pattern, loved the fit and the instructions. I will be making more for summer!
