Sewing PJs with Your Favourite PE Patterns

Sewing PJs with Your Favourite PE Patterns

Looking to sew your own pyjamas? Discover how to turn everyday sewing patterns from Pattern Emporium into comfy, stylish PJs for warm or cool weather. No special pattern needed — just your stash, some snuggly fabric, and a little inspiration. You’ll find all the patterns featured below in our Sewing Pyjamas Collection.

If you’ve been around Pattern Emporium for a while, you’ve probably heard our patterns described as secret pyjamas — you know, the stylish clothes that feel like you’re wearing PJs, but look totally put together. Our kind of magic.

But this time? We’re skipping the secret.
This blog is about actual pyjamas.

Comfy, cosy, curl-up-on-the-couch PJs. Ones that make you feel fabulous — even if you’re just padding around the house with a cuppa in hand. And the best part? You already have the patterns in your stash.

From winter warmers to hot night sets, there are so many ways to turn your favourite PE patterns into your new favourite PJs. Here’s how we’ve been sewing them…

❄️ Cosy Makes For Cooler Days

Meredith went for roomy and relaxed with her Coco Wide Leg Pants and a soft Be You Tee — a classic PJ combo that’s all about comfort. While hers look perfectly pyjama-ready in this fabric, you could easily make the same set in a different print or fabric for something that works just as well for daytime wear.

Amanda is all snuggled up in her rib knit Urban Pants and Trapeze Trio top. It's the kind of set you want to change into the moment you walk in the door. You can even sew a pyjama dress (nightie) using the Trapeze pattern.

She also paired Foxy Legs Joggers with the Every Me Tank for a layering-friendly look that works across seasons. Layer with the Be You Tee for a long sleeve version. Or make a sleeveless nightie with the Every Me Tank (dress option).

Livia & her daughter took the award for cosiest matching moment with their Lounge Dresses made from snuggly blankets — one with a hood, one with a cowl neck, and both with full cuddle energy.

I couldn't stop at one — I’ve sewn multiple Lounge Dresses, including versions in bamboo lycra and cotton lycra. They're the kind of comfy that makes you wonder why you'd ever wear anything else. And yes, this pattern includes long sleeves (psst. & pockets!).

Melanie is also part of the Lounge Dress fan club, with her cotton spandex versions giving all the soft, stretchy goodness.

She also pulled out all the cosy stops with her Unwind Top (regular neckline, long sleeves, long length) and stretch Palazzo Pants, both in faux alpaca from Lush Fabrics. It’s the ultimate winter-at-home uniform — no waistband fuss, no pockets, just plush, glorious comfort.

For one of those in-between-season moments, I also paired the Vacay Top with the Walk Boldly Pants in a viscose rib knit. A bit summery on top, a bit snuggly down below — just how I like it. Add a Grab A Cuppa Cardi in matching fabric for extra warmth.

Kim kept things textured in a seersucker knit Besties Tee and Urban Pants. That gentle stretch makes it perfect for layering or lounging. The Besties comes with long sleeves & longer lengths too. Perfect for pjs & loungewear all year round. Throw an extra layer on with a Grab A Cuppa Cardi in cropped or thigh length.

☀️ Light, Comfy & Perfect For Summer

When the temps start to rise, these sets will keep you cool and comfy all night long. And if you love the style but want something toastier? Just add sleeves and swap to a winter-friendly knit. Easy done.

Ebony is all about playful comfort in her Sashay Shorts and Carefree Tee, sewn in a soft, grey animal print DBP. The small-scale print gives it a subtle, fun edge — comfy enough for bed, cute enough to feel good padding around the house.

This one’s a total fave. I made a matching set in woven cotton using the All In Shirt (with the sleeve that ends in a cute little ruffle — because why not?) and the Vacation Vibes Pants pattern, chopped into shorts - you could also use the Getaway Shorts. It’s the kind of set that looks pulled together but feels like pyjamas… because it is. Perfect for warm nights, weekend lounging, or pretending you’re on holiday.

Amanda stitched the sweetest set in stretch cotton lycra: Just Peachy Shorts and the Hugs & Kisses Cami. That shelf bra is just as comfy as it sounds. Sew a dress version (nightie) with the Heartstrings Dress.

Meredith paired her rayon spandex Just Peachy Shorts with the Besties Tee — flowy, soft, and perfect for drifting off in style or enjoying a slow morning cuppa on the balcony, taking in the sunshine and fresh air.

Melanie turned the Vacay Dress Sewing Pattern into a nightie by cutting the mini length — and the result is dreamy. Sewn in a drapey viscose jersey, it’s floaty, lightweight and perfect for warmer nights. Easy to wear, easy to sleep in, and the kind of thing you’ll want in multiples. Pair with the Reconnect Cardi in matching fabric for a lightweight layer.

Melanie stitched her Just Peachy Shorts and Endless Summer Tee in DBP — a smooth, stretchy combo that feels amazing against the skin.

Alana nailed relaxed vibes in her All In Shirt and Getaway Shorts, both in cotton. Crisp, cute, and just structured enough that you could answer the door in them.

Elise made a classic cotton duo with the Rise & Shine Top and Getaway Shorts. So light. So easy. So wear-on-repeat.

Livia created a sweet set in cotton lycra: the Time Out Tank and Sashay Shorts — sporty, stretchy, and super wearable.

And finally, I kept it breezy in Just Peachy Shorts (soft viscose jersey for the win) paired with the Chasing Butterflies Top. It’s light and drapey, but you could totally winterise it with long sleeves and bamboo or by pairing with the Walk Boldly Pants or Foxy Legs Pants.
